Endings in Clinical Practice: A Two-Part Workshop
Based upon the prolific work of Frederic Reamer and Kenneth S. Pope, and the writing of Joseph Walsh, ethical considerations of terminations in clinical practice will be discussed throughout the course. The aftermath of suicide upon the clinician will be a specific segment.
Attendees will be instructed on natural terminations in therapy, unplanned terminations, traumatic terminations, and client suicide with specific courses of action necessary in each situation.
Repercussions of suicide upon individual clinicians, colleagues, their own families, and overall practice will be addressed as will ethically sound responses for self-care and recovery.
The workshop will also include the importance of establishing a clinical will and the proper format, storage and instructions for execution in the event of illness or death of a clinician.
